A friend asked me the other day why I do what I do. It’s always good to revisit that question, so here was my response.
For more than 35 years, I’ve seen far too many north Texans suffer because a family member failed to plan (or tried to do their planning themselves) only to learn, too late, that the damage was already done
Looking back, I was like most young lawyers. I chose the law hoping to improve people’s lives. It didn’t take long to learn that lawsuits – the way all young lawyers envision justice being done – are far from an ideal way to resolve issues. The truth is, they can cause as many problems as they solve. More often than not, both sides left every lawsuit disappointed at the result and disillusioned about the judicial system. Those were not the outcomes I wanted for my clients. I learned that the best lawsuit was the one that never happened.
It was too late for this young man to protect himself and his property from costly court proceedings. All that was left was for his parents to navigate the ongoing, high cost of caring for their son under court supervision, as his court-appointed guardians.
Their lives could have been so much easier – would have been easier – if only someone had been there to help him choose how to protect himself, his property, and his family.
Over a period of years, I grew to know and admire these faithful and loving parents. I was truly honored to serve them, and their struggles forever changed the course of my life. It became my mission to educate and empower as many people as possible to make great choices to protect themselves, their families and their treasure, before it was too late. I made it my mission to use the law to help my clients avoid court supervision of their property, keep their financial affairs private, and use time-honored legal tools to save precious time and, in the process, thousands (often tens of thousands) of dollars.
Those sweet parents have long since passed away. But our shared experience still drives me to create a modern law firm and to keep my team on the cutting edge, so we can lead our clients there, making the very best-informed decisions possible.
If you are reading these words, it’s not too late for you to plan your future. You – not a judge – should choose who will care for you and your property. You – not the state of Texas – should control who will eventually receive your property.
We are here to help you take control of your future and make great choices that bless, not burden, your loved ones. You can substitute your dreams and desires for the state’s plans for you.
If you have no will or trust, or if your current plan is more than five years old, then you are our mission; because you and your family are at risk of repeating the mistakes too many others have made. Whatever it is that has stopped you from planning until now, we are in the business of replacing that anxiety and uncertainty with peace of mind through careful planning. Your journey to peace of mind starts with a simple phone call or email. Just tell us you want to take control of your future, and we will guide you every step of the way.
